The piazza in from of the church is spectacular and incredibly large. We love gothic churches and was on our bucket list of places to visit. This was the major reason that we flew into Milan. If you are not willing to pay more for 'skip the line' tickets, you'd better go earlier and buy your tickets first because the line, to get into the Cathedral, can become really long and may take an hour or more to enter. Tickets are sold in the Duomo shop (to the right of the entrance to the Duomo). You can visit the archaeological area beneath the cathedral and see the crypt of St Charles and foundations of the original churches on top of which the present cathedral was built - building it took almost 6 centuries.įor some extra euros you can go to the rooftop either by the stairs or by the lift where you can admire the beautiful views of Milan. A number of masterpieces, statues and paintings, are there too. So are the huge marble columns with the miniature statues close to the top.

The stained glass (most of them dating back to the 15th century), depicting stories from the Bible, are adorable as well. The stunningly impressive architecture, ornate facade and rooftop, and richly decorated interior will make you feel admiration and respect. It is also one of the biggest and tallest cathedral in the world. This is the landmark of Milan and the seat of its Archbishop. Those looking to relax can go to Parco Sempione, where nature provides respite from the energy of this dynamic and international city. If shopping takes its toll on you, consider visiting Castello Sforzesco, a 15th century castle housing several museums. Brands of all kinds and street artists attract the attention of all visitors while at Via Santa Radegonda 16, Luini Panzerotti is a much appreciated street food shop providing unimaginable culinary experiences. The Corso Vittorio Emanuele II is the street for high-end shopping. Head to the rooftop of the flagship La Rinascente to enjoy the view of the animated square with a panorama of the Duomo. The classy and versatile Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II with luxury boutiques and high quality restaurants will turn any shopping or lunch expedition into a royal experience. However, shopping is what draws most crowds to this area.
